Thursday's Wine: Poema Cava Brut
Each month I receive Publix Grape Magazine. It's distributed by Publix Supermarkets. In my readings I came across today's wine choice. A lovely Spanish sparkling wine (often labled cava) called Poema Cava Brut. I decided to treat myself earlier this week to a bottle and was pleasantly surprised. Nicely priced at just under $12.00, this is a clean, crisp sparkling wine with the lively aromas of peaches and pears (if you close your eyes you'll get a faint smell of apples). Pairs nicely with appetizers and Asian foods.

Thursday's Wine: 2009 Zaca Mesa Viognier
This wine tastes so delightful, I couldn't put it into words myself so I humbly borrowed the tasting notes from the good folks at Zaca Mesa Winery. Enjoy!
"On the nose, aromas of honeysuckle and white peach hint at sweetness. However, this wine is dry on the palate with notes of ripe apricot, lemon-lime, melon and lychee. A lingering finish has a touch of minerality, a signature characteristic of our vineyard. A natural pairing would be Thai chicken, raw oysters, ahi tuna or Szechuan prawns. Serve cool (40-45ºF)."

Thursday's Wine: Cakebread Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
I attended a wine pairing dinner recently and tasted several delightful wines by Cakebread Cellars. Over the years I have spoken to many people that are big fans of the Cakebread brand, but I'd never had the pleasure of actually tasting their wines. I am a fan of Cabernet Sauvignon and tend to be very particular. I have to say that I was extremely impressed.
With its dark crimson-like color, this wine has the aromas of rich, dark berries reminiscent of boysenberry and blackberry. It also carries deep scents of coffee and chocolate. This is a full bodied, elegant wine that tastes velvety smooth on the palate. You won't be disappointed.
