Thirsty Thursday: The Extra Dirty Martini

One of my favorite drinks is a Dirty Martini! Traditionally the Classic Martini is made with gin and vermouth and then topped off with a lemon twist or an olive. While I've never been a fan of gin or vermouth, an old friend of mine introduced me to the dirty martini some
fifteen years ago. It's definitely an acquired taste and I must say that I've been hooked ever since. These drinks are terrific for serving at cocktail parties, girl's night out, etc... Here's a recipe I found courtesy of My Man's Belly! Enjoy!

Ingredients
Splash of Lillet
2 Ounces Vodka
3/4 – 1 Ounce Olive Brine (olive juice)
4 Olives

Instructions
Add the splash of Lillet to martini glass.
Swirl the Lillet around the glass then pour it out.
Add the vodka, olive brine and ice to a shaker.
Cover and shake until your hand is so cold you swear it’s going to fall off.
Strain drink into martini glass.
Spear olives and drop into side of drink.
Serve.

Thursday's Wine: Vouvray 2009 Dom. Le Peu de la Moriette, J.C. Pichot

Jean-Claude Pichot’s family is one of the oldest in Vouvray, with origins as viticulturists and restaurateurs dating back to 1739. Their estate vineyards, the Domaine le Peu de la Moriette has expanded over the years from thirty just over fifty acres of hillside vineyards. 2008 was a spectacular vintage for Vouray and this wine shows rich complex flavors. Off-dry with fig and pear flavors and a lively finish.
Price: $12.00-$16.00

Thursday's Wine: Nicolas Feuillatte Palmes d'Or Grand Cuvee 1998

Todays wine is actually champagne. It's a blend (my personal favorite) of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. A pale yellow hue with fine delicate bubbles, its complex aromas are dominated by notes of pastry and caramel lifted by subtle touches of fennel, star anise and lemon peel. This smooth and balanced Champagne is beautifully packaged in a matte gold container and black velvet wrap.
Price: $99.00

Thursday's Wine: Louis Jadot Pouilly-Fuisse 2009

Oooh la la! Thursday's wine brings us back to France. Here's a little backround at Pouilly-Fuisse.Pouilly and Fuissé are two distinct villages in the Mâconnais.

Although Pouilly Fuissé should be drunk when age 5, it can be forgotten in a cellar for a very long time as it can possibly age 20 years or even more !

Louis Jadot Pouilly-Fuisse 2009 shows plenty of ripe apples and creaminess, the layered and rewarding '09 Louis Jadot Pouilly Fuisse exhibits fine balance and style; pleasingly, persistent aftertaste.
